Learning to Read and Write Kanji Row 16

As with other posts in this series, this is the results of a test I took today, June 22, 2021.

kanji test row 16

犬 実 授 半 奥 難 世 存 会 参 番 弟 横 具 島 屋 覚 説 竹 池 科 色 話 若 松 強 合 席 冷

I did really poorly on this test, but I got all the current row correct (or good enough in the case of 難 and 冷), so let's talk about how I'm losing kanji as I move on. It took me 5 days to complete this row, so we're ahead of our 1 row per week goal. I drew a bad 号 instead of 番 again. I flipped the inner part of 屋 upside down, which is common for that one. See 室... I drew 言 instead of 話 because I forgot the association. I tried to draw 強 but I couldn't decide. I knew the reading, but I just didn't have a strong feeling about the kanji. I forgot 席, dunno what went wrong, I need to add it to my list of kanji to remember. It's very unfortunate that I forgot the ice radical from 冷. This is enough to be considered a wrong result, but I'm too lazy to redraw it now after seeing it during review. I'll add it to my list of kanji to learn. It's an easy kanji to remember and I've remembered it in earlier tests, so it's a matter of preparation.

The result was 82%. That's better than nothing, but it's below my standard. We'll try to improve by doing more big tests (20 random kanji from all rows, unbiased).

On Saturday I ran a half marathon. It was quite an experience. I didn't think it was possible in the past due to natural limitations that I've run into (apologies for the pun) during strenuous or long exercise. It turns out that these limitations are actually just on the first few runs. With some training, I was able to survive the long and fast run. It took a lot rest the days after but I was able to walk 1.6km on Monday with no resistance. I spent a lot of time walking, but that is the topic of a blog I wrote about it which I will post when it is complete.

What else is going on? Well, a lot of things, but I'm feeling off due to the heat. I've been playing a bit of Rock Band and Rock Band Beatles. It's nice to be able to get those working. They've given me a lot of troubles and since my PS3 broke down I've been dependent on RPCS3, which isn't perfect yet. But it feels really nice to be able to play songs. Perhaps this is all I have to share today.

Until next time!

I'll hopefully post all tests as I pass them. Wish me luck.
